Come join us for the 19 Annual Washoe Valley Endurance Rides. Experience the beauty of the Virginia Mountain Range in full
spring bloom, while enjoying the views of the snow capped Sierras. Great food and awards, challenging trail, and a fun time with friends and horses!

CAMP: Washoe Lake State Park is located between Reno and Carson City, Nevada. Due to the State Park Fee Schedule your overnight camping fees ARE NOT included in your entry fee. Your day use fee will be covered by Ride Management. You will need to pay your camping fee upon arrival to the park, at the fee booth. A $10.00 fee, per vehicle per night, is required. NV Residents with Annual Parking Permits are covered for day use only. You will be required to pay the above camping fee if staying Friday and/or Saturday nights. Camp space is limited. Please park as comfortably close as possible. Please don’t drive over the sagebrush!!! Restrooms / portable toilets / showers will be available. Horse water will be available. Please bring water for human consumption. We are at 5000' elevation. Come prepared for any type of weather. Portable corrals should be placed outside the post barriers, to better utilize vehicle parking space. (please watch for the drip system). Dogs are allowed, but must be kept on a leash at all times (see Ride Rules).

DIRECTIONS: Traveling south on Hwy. 395 from Reno, approximately 6 miles past the junction of State Route 341 and 431, turn left on East Lake Blvd. Proceed approximately 7 miles, to the south. After the bend, watch for signs on the right for Washoe Lake State Park. Turn right then right again, after the fee booth, and follow the signs to the equestrian camp area. Traveling north on Hwy. 395, from Carson City, take the East Lake Blvd. exit 42. Turn right and proceed approx. 3 miles to the Park entrance. Turn left, then right, after the fee booth, and follow the signs to the equestrian camp area.

TRAIL DESCRIPTION: The rides are of moderate difficulty. Pads and/or Easyboots are recommended! The desert terrain varies from rocky to sandy, has several steep climbs and downhills, some trails, cross country, and jeep roads. Elevation ranges from 4600' to 7500'. Ride management will provide water and snacks for horses and riders on the trail. The 25 miler (Saturday & Sunday) will consist of two loops, which offers the novice horse and rider a moderate challenge, while enjoying beautiful views from the mountain tops and the beach of Washoe Lake. The 50 miler will consist of three loops, each returning to camp for Control Checks. These loops will have an elevation gain of 1000' to 2000'. The last loop is flat, and partially travels along the lake in deep sand. Sunday’s 50 miler will consist of three different loops, each returning to camp for Control Checks. RIDERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY WHILE CROSSING PAVED ROADS!!!

NEDA RIDE: We will be having a NEDA (National Endurance Driving Association) ride in conjunction with the Sunday AERC rides. This is something new we are offering for our local NEDA riders, and will be conducted under AERC rules. The NEDA points program will apply. There will be no drive included.

TRAIL RIDE: We will be offering a 15 mile Trail Ride on Sunday for anyone interested in riding less than 25 miles. This trail will consist of two loops, both returning back to base camp. Riders will receive a special award, along with a meal. Trail Riders will not be required to present their horses for Control Judge exams.

PRE-RIDE CONTROL EXAMINATION: 3 pm to 7 pm on Friday, May 4th, a pre-ride meeting will be held at 7:15 p.m. Friday. For riders arriving in the morning, a pre-ride exam will be held approximately 1 hour prior to your start time. The pre-ride exam for Sunday’s ride will take place during Saturday’s ride, as Control Judges are available. Our Head Control Judge is Susan McCartney, D.V.M.

STARTING TIMES: 50 milers (both days) start at 6:30 a.m., and have 12 hours elapsed time to complete. 25 milers (both days) start at 8:00 a.m., and have 6 hours elapsed time to complete. 15 mile Trail Riders (Sunday) will start at 8:30 a.m.

SANCTIONING/RULES: The rides are sanctioned by the American Endurance Ride Conference, Arabian Horse Association, and National Endurance Driving Association. All A.E.R.C., A.H.A., and N.E.D.A. rules will apply. See additional ride rules. Both 50 mile rides are recognized AHA Local Rides (Saturday 50 mile ride #120711407 and Sunday 50 mile ride #120711408).

MEALS/BANQUET: We’re serving a Pasta Dinner Friday evening, $5.00 per person. Saturday’s delicious barbeque dinner will be available to riders, crews, volunteers, and ride officials. Serving will start between 6-6:30 p.m. (approximately), with awards to follow. Each rider will receive one ticket included with their entry. Extra tickets will be sold ($15 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under). Participants for Sunday’s ride interested in eating with us on Saturday must purchase a meal ticket. Serving of Sunday’s chili dinner will start around 2:00 p.m., with awards to follow. Each rider will receive one ticket included with their entry. Extra tickets will be available for $5.00.

COMPLETION AWARDS: Completion awards will be given to successful riders on Saturday and Sunday. 50 milers - Special awards will be given for 1st Place Overall, Best Condition, 1st place in each weight division and junior division, and Top Ten for both Saturday’s and Sunday’s ride. 25 Milers - A Horse Excellence Award will be chosen from all horses that finish the 25 miler, by their condition, and not finish time. NEDA riders will be given a completion award upon successfully finishing the 25/50 mile ride on Sunday, under the AERC rules. Riders participating in our 15 mile NEDA/trail ride will receive a participation award.

ENTRY FEES: Pre-Registration fees apply before 4/25/12. Saturday 25 mile ride - $80.00. Saturday 50 mile ride - $95.00. Sunday 25 mile ride - $70.00. Sunday 50 mile ride - $85.00. Sunday NEDA 50 mile ride - $70.00 for non-AERC riders, $85.00 for AERC/NEDA dual entry. Sunday NEDA 25 mile ride - $55.00 for non-AERC riders, $70.00 for dual entry. Sunday 15 mile NEDA/trail ride - $30.00. A $15.00 late fee will apply per ride for entries postmarked after 04/25/12. Sponsored juniors ride for half price. 2012 AERC Ride Managers will receive a $25.00 discount off your total entry fee. A $15.00 fee per ride will be charged to non-AERC members. AERC membership cards will be checked. Cancellations by 5/2/12 will receive a full refund. Cancellations after 5/2/12 will be refunded all but $25.00. No Shows will receive NO REFUND! Checks will not be cashed until after the ride. Ride refunds will be paid within 30 days.
