Get that horse and camping gear ready for the Thistle Down Run Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 20-21 near Frazee.
This year's race trail is 25 miles of varied terrain through grass fields, rolling hills and hardwood forests on single and two-track trails.
"Last year the Thistle Down Run was rated as 'the best marked course in the USA' by Jan Worthington, a veteran endurance rider from Illinois who has competed in events worldwide and is a recent inductee into the AERC Hall of Fame," ride manager Theresa Fett said proudly.
"This year's event will feature some new wooded trails and there will be enough markers to keep even the most greenhorn rider from getting lost."
Camping is available for $25 a night or $20 a night with two or more nights stay. For those not planning to stay, there is a $10 day-use fee. Early camping is available so call ahead. The camping fees will go to the landowners for use of their property.
TDR is the only endurance event in Minnesota that is held on private property. Thanks to Scott and Lisa Piche (camp hosts), Les, Pat, and Ron Kertscher and Vinton and Joyce Vogler.
"A special thanks to these guys for letting us use the land each year, it is a lot of work to keep the trails groomed and different. Some riders think the trails will be the same, but the routes are different each year," noted Fett. "All the land being used is private, so please respect the owners' property..."
